A Web3 Game Posing as Nothing More Than 'A Fun Game'

TL;DR

  • Mythical Games’ new game, NFL Rivals, is available on iOS and Android; and when you see the description in the app stores, there's no mention of 'NFTs,' 'blockchain technology,' or 'Web3.'

  • Users don't care about how the backend works, or whether they need to store their players in a special 'wallet.'

  • Mythical Games has combined something that tens of millions of Americans care about - the NFL - and have created a game, powered by blockchain technology, that's fun and almost seems unrelated to Web3.

Full Story

Mythical Games has just dropped the officially-licensed NFL mobile game, NFL Rivals.

It's available on iOS and Android; and when you see the description in the app stores, there's no mention of 'NFTs,' 'blockchain technology,' or 'Web3.'

That's a great thing.

Here's why:

While NFL Rivals offers a free-to-play mode, users who want to play with specific NFL players, can buy, sell and trade those players through Mythical Games' online marketplace.

Sure, they're actually NFTs, but the user doesn't need to know that - they just want to use their favorite player.

They don't care about how the backend works, or whether they need to store it in a special 'wallet.'

The language of Web3 can scare the hell out of people.

(Hey, that's one of the main reasons why we started this newsletter 👋).

Mythical Games has combined something that tens of millions of Americans care about - the NFL - and have created a game, powered by blockchain technology, that's fun and almost seems unrelated to Web3.
