The Web3 gaming console that will likely fail (for our benefit).
Creators of the Zilliqa blockchain are really taking one for the team here.
They've just announced plans to release a Web3 gaming console.
The console probably won't work out in the long term (at least that's our guess), but it has a lot of potential to prove demand for Web3 gaming in the short term, and move the industry forward.
The 'gaming hub' aims to make play-to-earn (or skill-to-earn) Web3 gaming, super simple.
The console will have a crypto wallet coded into it as standard and also be able to use its computing power to mine cryptocurrency (specifically, the Zilliqa token - no surprise there).
Point is, players won't need any technical know how - it'll just be a plug-and-play setup.
Ok, great - so why do we see it as 'doomed to fail'?
Here's the worst/best case scenarios we see for this console..
Worst case: the gaming hub launches, but there aren't enough compelling Web3 games out there to justify users making the jump over from PlayStation or Xbox - and it flops.
Best case: enough users are intrigued by the concept of Web3 gaming to try it out. There are a bunch of exciting games available that are fun to play (and earn) with.
As a result, Sony and Xbox copy them, integrating a crypto wallet and (while it may be a stretch) mining capabilities to their existing products with an over the air update.
See how Zilliqa are taking one for the team?
If they succeed, they prove a new business model for the industry giants to copy. If they fail, well...they fail.
Zilliqa, y'all are some stand up folks.
