There’s a new unicorn in Web3

Yesterday, Unstoppable Domains officially became a unicorn.

Which means they reached $1B valuation as a private company.

(No small feat).

So, what're they doing that makes them so valuable?

Ok...you know how your iPhone saves the log in details for your online accounts, so you can sign in to most websites with one click?

Plus, they store all of your credit cards / memberships / event tickets (etc.) to the Wallet App?

Unstoppable want to do that, using Web3 tech.

Instead of 'Sign In/Pay With Apple', it'll be 'Sign In/Pay With Your Crypto Wallet'.

And similar to how Apple lets you choose which email address to use as a username, Unstoppable Domains lets you choose your wallet address.

For example, most default crypto wallet addresses are a jumbled mess of letters and numbers, like:

1srz4SLRHtKNngdkXEeobR76b53LETtpyT

With Unstoppable, users can buy a custom address, eg:

web3daily.wallet

(It's much cleaner / easier to remember).

Are Unstoppable the only folks doing this sort of thing? No.

Ethereum Name Service are doing something similar, but the difference for users is they require you to pay renewal fees each year (just like you would with a regular web domain).

With Unstoppable, once you buy and mint your domain, it’s yours.

So what's their long term play?

It seems as though Unstoppable want their domains to become an all in one tool, that gives users ownership over their online behavioral data.

E.g. Do you shop frequently at Nike, drink Starbucks daily and book your vacations through Airbnb?

Using a Web3 wallet to login and shop at these websites would mean that a lot of that behavioral data would be owned by you.

(Not Facebook, not Google).

And hey, if you want to sell your information to advertisers, that's your prerogative.

It's a neat concept!

We're keen to see how it shapes out.
