Bitcoin is Changing the Education System

TL;DR

  • Unless you opt in to learn about money by choosing ‘economics’ as a subject in school today, chances are you’ll graduate without a single lesson about it.

  • In collaboration with the non profit, My First Bitcoin, teachers from 150 public schools in El Salvador are learning about what Bitcoin is, and how it can help to combat things like hyperinflation.

  • Just as Gen Z’s (and Gen Alpha) are ‘digital natives’; through their schooling education, they may also become ‘digital currency natives.’

Okay, we get it, that headline is bold.

But hear us out…

Ever wondered why we don’t get taught about personal money management in school?

Surely, that’s an important subject - heck, in the wise words of The Verve, “you’re a slave to money then you die.”

Yet, unless you opt in to learn about money by choosing ‘economics’ as a subject, chances are you’ll graduate without a single lesson about it.

(And even economics is highly theoretical for anyone who just wants to know about how to make and save money).

Well, Bitcoin could help with that.

In fact, as of last week, it’s already helping in El Salvador (where BTC is considered legal tender).

In collaboration with the non profit, My First Bitcoin, teachers from 150 public schools are learning about what Bitcoin is, and how it can help to combat things like hyperinflation.

Here’s why we love this:

Bitcoin is a new type of currency. It’s scarce and transactions are immutably tracked on the public blockchain.

With innovations like digital currencies, comes the opportunity to rethink the old way of doing things.

The earlier students learn about digital currencies, the more likely they are to understand and adopt them in the future.

Just as Gen Z’s (and Gen Alpha) are ‘digital natives’; through their schooling education, they may also become ‘digital currency natives.’

Given the opportunities that lie ahead for anyone who understands how blockchain technology can help the financial system, this could be great.

Dare we say it: the younger generations may not be slaves to money till they die?
