David Bowie enters Web3 from beyond the grave...and some folks are mad about it.

David Bowie's estate is trying to raise money to fight world hunger...and some folks are mad about it.

Not the 'raising money to fight world hunger' thing (can you imagine?), but that the estate is selling NFTs to do so.

The collection was recently announced by OpenSea:

“On September 13th, David Bowie’s undying influence will impact yet another new frontier as nine of the world’s leading crypto-artists come together to celebrate his legacy and put #BowieOnTheBlockchain,”

Those who weren't into the idea, had this to say:

With one of the biggest blows coming from Bowie's son, Duncan:

While (surprise, surprise) we don't agree with the backlash - we do understand it...

It feels as though for every legitimate NFT project that is launched, there're five scammy ones to match it.

That being said, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense here - NFTs are a great vehicle for raising charitable donations, when compared to other traditional methods.

They add incentives that didn't really exist previously. For example:

The old way = donate money to a good cause → get a warm and fuzzy feeling.

The new way = donate money to a good cause → get a warm and fuzzy feeling AND a digital collectible that has the potential to increase in value.

(Plus, charities can program future royalty splits in to each NFT - so every time one sells, a cut of the sale goes back to the cause).

That's a 'win / win / win' right there.
