Dove (the soap company) is entering the metaverse and it actually makes total sense

How the hell does a soap company fit in to the metaverse?

It’s a complex topic, but hear us out - it'll make sense in the end.

People can be represented in any way, shape or form in the metaverse (and in gaming).

Yet, it was found that ~60% of women feel underrepresented in video games, as far as virtual avatars and their appearances go.

And Dove ain't having a bar of it ( accidental pun, leaving it in).

They’ve teamed up with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine education team, and Women in Games to create the “Real Virtual Beauty” campaign.

The campaign aims to educate game developers on creating a healthier, more diverse representation of women in gaming, and the metaverse.

To achieve that, they’ve created a training course to better equip and teach game creators to avoid common design biases.

Here’s why we love this:

  1. It's proactive and actionable.

It'd be easy for Dove to point out representation issues in a slew of past gaming titles, get some free press, and call it a day.

(And that kind of faux corporate support sets off all sorts of bullshit alarms).

Instead, they're setting up for tangible results, by helping to educate game designers before they start creating. Smart!

  2. And on much more general level, it just makes sense - who wants to run around a metaverse where everyone looks the same? Snooze fest.

Two thumbs up, we love to see it!
