It looks like Web3 game makers are starting to get it:
NFTs shouldn't be 'the point,' of a game, but 'a perk.'
Famous-streamer-turned-game-maker Guy “Dr. Disrespect” Beahm, just play-tested his 'Deadrop' game in front of a live crowd at the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas .
(With an online audience of 32k).
Last year, Dr. Disrespect's game studio (Midnight Society) dropped 10k optional 'Founders Pass' NFTs for the unreleased game.
And it was, ah...not received well by his community - throwing around all sorts of "scammer" and "cash grab" comments.
(They'd been burned before).
But turns out Dr. Disrespect wasn't out to tank his reputation in exchange for a quick payday.
Nope! He did it right, with the 10K NFTs acting more like a membership pass, granting holders access to:
Priority merch
Access to game builds
Voting rights on game elements
Access to Midnight Society events
A one-of-a-kind PFP, whose visor can be worn in-game
The smartest part of the whole live reveal?
Doc. D didn't once mention NFTs in his presentation. Instead, he focused on gameplay.
One thing is for sure: that man can read a room.
