Models are coming to the metaverse

You read the headline.

Modeling agency, Photogenics, just announced that they’re creating “avant-garde, photorealistic avatars” of 13 models they currently have under management.

The likeness of each model is being recreated digitally, specifically for use in the metaverse.

It sounds odd, but it has its benefits:

  • Modeling has a high turn over rate. In theory; this could allow models to earn money from their likeness, indefinitely.

  • Until now, the modeling industry has been primarily focused on the physical world.

By moving into the metaverse, the industry may have a new strategy to maintain its relevance in an increasingly digital world.

  • This is yet another industry dipping its toes into Web3.
A number of high-end fashion brands have made moves into the space (e.g. Gucci; Tiffany & Co.) - and we can see a potential partnership in the works.

Each new industry that enters Web3 in some way, is a tiny step towards mass adoption.

It reads weird at first, but this is a great example of an existing, successful company, moving with the times.

Smart!
