NFT TV shows and 'The IKEA effect'
Remember a few months back, when Seth Green had his Bored Ape stolen?
It was a whole ordeal, because:
He’s a high profile collector.
He was producing a TV show using the Ape’s likeness.
That last bit was of particular concern, because when he lost the NFT, he lost the commercial rights to its imagery.
…and he’d already begun production on a TV series centered around that exact character.
Well, let’s hope Seth’s beefed up his security, because he and Steve Aoki are about to create their own joint production ‘Dominion X.’
(Which will be based off Steve’s NFT project of the same name).
Fans that grab an NFT from the ‘Replicant X’ collection, when it launches on September 7th, will be able to help write the series' story and vote on narrative directions.
Sure, it’s not a new concept in the Web3 space - but it’s still super interesting! Think about it:
The biggest problem all TV shows and movies face is finding an audience and fanbase that will support it.
Millions are often spent getting the word out and building an audience around productions.
This solves that problem, before it’s even begun - by leveraging the IKEA effect.
(Which says we tend to value something more, if we make or assemble it ourselves).
