Oh damn! Did Ledger just do Web3 gaming right?
The hardware wallet maker, Ledger, just released a Web3 game inside its desktop app, called 'Cometh Battle.'
...and they might have hit the nail on the head?
Picture the Pokemon trading card game, but instead of battling Pokemon, you battle spaceships (and each card is represented digitally, as an NFT).
Each NFT is minted on the Polygon (MATIC) network, and all matches are played out in real time, as live player-vs-player battles.
The part that Ledger really got right was this:
It's free for anyone to start.
Users just need to download the Ledger App and create an account (no hardware wallet needed).
Players receive 40 starter cards and a spaceship NFT for free, which can then be traded, sold, rented, or upgraded.
(And additional cards can be purchased).
Meaning:
There's zero friction for users to start & get hooked → once hooked, they can buy/sell/trade/rent their cards → for every sale, Ledger gets a cut.
All while:
Sending the Ledger App a bunch of new users.
Giving balanced economic opportunities to both players, and makers.
That's a big brain move right there.
