Old trick, new application.

It’s been a big week for Cristiano Ronaldo...

On Tuesday, ol' Ronny was released by Manchester United following an outspoken media interview. Then, on Thursday, he became the first male footballer to score at five Fifa World Cups (i.e. GOAT).

Plus, Binance announced a “multi-year” partnership with C-Ron, which would involve the launch of his first ever NFT collection.

Here's the old trick: (physical) sports collectibles.
(Costly to verify quality. Hard to store safely. Difficult to gauge exact rarity).

Here's the new application: digital sports collectibles.
(Quality verification isn't needed. Easy/free to store safely. Exact rarity is gauged as standard, on the blockchain).

Here's what's exciting us about this:

Since the announcement for the NFT project, searches for ‘celebrity NFTs’ increased by 1,250%, ‘Binance’ increased by ~500%, and searches for ‘Ronaldo’ increased by 376%.

Obviously the World Cup plays a BIG part in this heightened interest, and the jury is out on whether folks will actually buy the things...

But either way - getting people excited about NFT collectibles in the midst of a particularly cruel crypto winter?

We love to see it.
