One of the Biggest Electronic Music Brands Is About To Enter Web3.
TL;DR
Beatport, a long established and trusted brand in electronic music, is enter Web3 with help from Polkadot.
The press release describing what the platform might be, is annoyingly vague. Here's what we think it will be:
An NFT platform tailored specifically to electronic music artists - one that allows creators to easily token gate private fan communities and in-person events.
Full Story
If you're an electronic music nerd, you'll know Beatport.
If you're not, allow us to fill you in: Beatport is where you go to get high quality audio files (it's mostly focused on servicing DJs).
It's niche. But as the saying goes: niches get riches.
...but what does Beatport have to do with Web3? Well, nothing - up until Monday.
Beatport have recently partnered with the folks behind the Polkadot blockchain, to create beatport.io.
What is it? No idea. The press release is annoyingly vague. Apparently the platform will allow:
"Artists, producers, and record labels to enjoy the benefits of Web3, while also giving music fans an opportunity to explore the value of digital collectibles and deepen their connection to their favorite artists and DJs".
...so now we play the guessing game.
Here's what we think it will be:
An NFT platform tailored specifically to electronic music artists - one that allows creators to easily token gate private fan communities and in-person events.
Has it been done already? Yes.
Has it been done by a long established and trusted brand, specifically focused on servicing electronic music artists/fans? Not to our knowledge.
This would be a smart approach!
(Remember: niches get riches).
