OpenSea just nuked NFT copycats.

We've said it before, and we'll say it again: right now, Web3 is in its 'wild west' phase.

...or to put that into a more universal context:

Web3 is in its willfully-obnoxious-teen-stage (big 'Avril Lavigne circa 2002' energy).

Many rules in the space are treated more like suggestions (that can either be ignored, or worked around).

Bad actors are comfortable breaking these rules (and often, laws) because anonymity in Web3 is easy to preserve.

The quickest way to put a stop to much of this shady behavior isn't to hunt and persecute the perpetrators, but to make their methods unviable.

And that's pretty much the crux of what OpenSea's new NFT Authenticity tool aims to do. If someone tries to take a popular NFT, and re-upload it as their own, OpenSea will detect and remove it within seconds.

Plus, common work arounds like flipping the image, making small adjustments to its appearance or blurring lines are no longer viable.

You can check out how it works in the video below:

While this a relatively small update, it's one that will help further legitimize the Web3 space.

Which is why it gets two thumbs up, three molto bene's and (if we had to guess) a Doug Score of 35.

We love to see it.
