Predictions for Apple's role in the metaverse
Damn, we've been writing about the metaverse A LOT this week!
This piece of news is particularly exciting because it presents a promising roadmap to the widespread adoption of VR.
Why? Because it's Apple making the hardware.
The rumor is: they're planning to release a mixed reality VR headset later this year.
Here's what you need to know:
The headset is due out this spring
The device is rumored to be called the 'Reality Pro'
It will likely be priced between $2K-3K (textbook Apple)
The headset will be powered by Apple's super speedy M2 chip
It will be an AR/VR cross over device, that resembles ski goggles
Here's our guess at how it will affect Web3:
Not much.
At least, not in the beginning. Apple has a habit of placing safe, well tested bets - Web3 is neither of those things (yet).
If nothing else, the Reality Pro's biggest impact will be in normalizing VR computing.
(I.e. doing what Zuck couldn't).
The result being a broader user base for developers to create VR enabled apps/games/experiences for.
As for the metaverse...
Gaming still seems to be the most likely 'first home' for decentralized virtual economies.
(We laid out that prediction in finer detail, here).
