The metaverse smells (scents are a thing now).

What are we describing here?

"A dystopian future, where the metaverse is fully immersive, and owned by a single company that controls a digital currency worth more than the US dollar."

If you answered: 'A recurring wet dream, had by Mark Zuckerberg for the past decade.'

You may be right (we can neither confirm, nor deny).

What we know for sure is: it's also the plot of Ready Player One.

It's a concept that feels far out, in the present day...but OVR Technology just took us one step closer to it.

(The 'fully immersive' part at least - the 'dystopian future' and 'control of a globally accepted digital currency' is being sold separately, for now).

OVR Technology debuted new VR technology at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

The new addition? Smell (or, 'virtual stank,' if you will).

The OVR headset has a container for eight aromas that can be mixed together, to create various scents. Including, but not limited to:

  • A bed of Roses.

  • Marshmallows roasting.

  • And the fire they're roasting over.

You thought your significant other was underwhelmed by your 'romantic camping trip' irl?

Wait till they try this!
