Vitalik just took a swipe at Zuck… and he makes a good point.

A wise inspirational quote (that we found on Pinterest) once said:

"The key to happiness, is always having something to look forward to."

And yes, it was written in cursive font (so you know it's legit).

For many in the Web3 space, that 'thing to look forward to' is the metaverse. But right now, it's not quite there yet.

Vitalik Buterin, the Founder of Ethereum - or ‘ETH Daddy’ as we like to refer to him, has taken a polite (and valid) swipe at Zuck’s version of the metaverse.

Pretty much saying:

‘Lol, you’re building a product for a community of people that don’t actually know what they want just yet…good luck with that.’

The real version was a little more polite, but equally as hard hitting:

“We don’t really know the definition of ‘the metaverse’ yet, it’s far too early to know what people actually want…

So anything Facebook creates now will misfire.”

And he has a point...

Facebook’s metaverse, to paraphrase Edward Snowden, "looks and feels like LinkedIn, in VR." It's a big old nothing burger.

And while other projects, like The Sandbox, are laying some exciting groundwork - even they struggle to capture the ‘holy hell, this is a game changer, I need it in my life’ kind of reaction we're all looking for.

(That is, at least, for now).

Point is: if you look at the current metaverse offerings and struggle to see the long term appeal, that’s ok!

It'll get there in the end.

For now, it's something to look forward to.
