You can now use 'altcoin' and 'metaverse' in your next game of Scrabble.

There's going to be a lot of news about The Merge update this week...

So let's take a pause for a second to talk about a different kind of update.

Specifically: an update to the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

It was just announced that the oldest US dictionary has just added two new crypto-related words: 'altcoin' and 'metaverse.'

While it's not unusual for M-W to add new words, it does represent the evolution of language and culture.

In other words, 'altcoin' and 'metaverse' are - at least to M-W - considered part of mainstream culture now.

  1. Provides a clear definition of the terms.

  2. Brings the words into people's vocabulary, even more.

  3. Makes it legal to use these words when competing against your siblings in Scrabble.

In the meantime, we're still waiting for 'degen' to be our daily Wordle...
