Youtube’s New CEO Is Bullish on Web3

Huge news!

YouTube has a new CEO.

Wait, no...who cares about that. Let's run this again...

Huge news!

YouTube's new CEO, Neal Mohan, wants to bring Web3 functionality to the platform (!!!).

Here's what Neal had to say:

"Web3 also opens up new opportunities for creators. We believe new technologies like blockchain and NFTs can allow creators to build deeper relationships with their fans.

Together, they’ll be able to collaborate on new projects and make money in ways not previously possible,"

That's about all we've got from him at this point, so what this Web3 integration will look like exactly, is still unclear.

So in the meantime, let's geek out on some numbers:

YouTube has a total user base of around 2.56 billion, 122 million of which use YouTube every day.

Let's be conservative and say that over time, only 1% of those 122M daily active viewers convert into daily active Web3 users.

That's 1.22M new Web3 users.

For context: Ethereum, the largest blockchain network in Web3 (by market cap), currently has 383K daily active users.

That's an easy breezy 3x in active use, from one integration.

...and if YouTube finds success in Web3 - other big players in Web2 will want to follow.

VERY exciting!
