Zuck's idea for an open, interoperable metaverse.

Yesterday, Mark Zuckerberg delivered the Meta Connect conference keynote.

Not only did he announce the launch of the Quest Pro mixed reality headset (coming in at a cool $1500); he also discussed the metaverse.

Since rebranding his company to 'Meta,' the stock price has dropped ~60% and Zuck has been scolded over the poor quality of Meta's Metaverse.

But we're not here to kick ol' Marky while he's down!

He said something that caught our attention during his speech.

“I strongly believe that an open, interoperable metaverse, built by many different developers and companies, is going to be better for everyone.”

Here's what he means by 'open, interoperable metaverse':

Microsoft licenses their software to everyone - IBM, Dell, HP etc. all have Microsoft Office software already installed when you buy them.

Apple doesn't license their software to anyone - the only way to use good old 'Apple Slides,' is by having a mac.

Microsoft = open.

Apple = closed.

So basically, Zuck is saying it'll be better for the world to take the Microsoft approach, rather than the Apple approach when it comes to the Metaverse.

But here's where it gets really interesting...

His vision for an 'interoperable metaverse,' is that you could buy items (say, a special edition t-shirt), and wear that tee in whichever metaverse you go into.

Those t-shirts (or swords, handbags, Spiderman costumes - whatever) would be bought and sold as NFTs.

A closed metaverse approach would mean that one platform would ultimately claim most of the created value.

Do we really believe that Zuck, the creator of the largest social network in the world, doesn't want that sort of control?

We promised not to kick Mark while he was down, so...

No comment.
