​“Don't throw the metaverse baby out with the Facebook bathwater!”

A group of French researchers are bullish on the metaverse and they're appealing to regulators, to support its free and natural growth.

This line from their report says it all:

“Don't throw the metaverse baby out with the Facebook bathwater!”

(Preeeeach!)

They warn that letting private groups control the metaverse's trajectory could result in “technologies plagued by isolating users from each other, and from the world around them.”

Their solution? Start building regulatory frameworks that will support free and open development of the metaverse - the same way they have the internet.

And if you're wondering where all of this is coming from, it's in reaction to the EU's harsh and stunting crypto regulations - the researchers don't want to see the same rules carry over to the metaverse:

“Start now [...] otherwise the place will quickly be taken by industrial lobbies"

It's a heavy sentiment, but we can't fault their logic.

Fair and balanced regulation is desperately needed across the entire Web3 space.

Here's hoping the French can set a positive standard for the rest of the world to follow.
