LG's metaverse enabled TV makes no sense...

Have you ever had a 'deconstructed' burger?

If you haven't, here's the experience in a nutshell:

The restaurant puts a bunch of burger ingredients on a plate, leaves it to you to put it together, then charges you double what they would for a normal burger.

This latest announcement from LG and the cloud-based technology platform 'Oorbit and Pixelynx,' has big 'deconstructed burger' energy.

The collaboration aims to allow viewers to explore virtual worlds, concerts and artificial intelligence multiplayer games through their LG TVs, making it easier for consumers to interact in the metaverse.

Which sounds cool at first glance!

...but why do we need a purpose built TV to do so, if it's all just being beamed in over the cloud?

Couldn't this have been achieved with a firmware update to our existing Smart TV's - or hell, with a HDMI cable and a laptop?

We're keen to see a vast and well populated metaverse!

But that ain't going to happen if all these hardware-based-roadblocks keep popping up.
