What are Meme Coins?

Put simply, meme coins are cryptocurrencies inspired / fueled by memes and internet jokes.

They typically take existing memes and ‘piggy back’ off their name recognition (eg: Dogecoin → the doge meme).

The name of the game is: high risk, high reward.

Successful meme coins often follow this pattern:

Attract short term speculators via name recognition → these speculators buy into the coin early and on a whim → which raises the price significantly over a short period of time → which then attracts more speculators → that then lifts the price even further → which attracts even more speculators…and so on until the price crashes and/or stabilizes once the hype cycle is completed.
